# After MS update to Word, now crashes with "COM" error and EndNote icon on error message

After MS update to Word, now crashes on launch with “COM” error and EndNote icon on error message. Tried ditching Word prefs etc but still not working.&nbsp;Help!

Hello srspring51,

I have seen the same error on Microsoft Office 2011 - Word 2011.

Our users use EndNote X5, and are on Mac OSX on a mix of 10.6 and 10.7.

This error normally causes Word 2011 to force quit, and attempts to restart unsuccessfully.&nbsp; This error appears repetitively and does not resolve itself.
