It would also be great to have the facility to produce a copy of a reference, so that the details could be edited. This would save entering the same title in several times if a number of editions have to be entered with details that hardly vary apart from the date.

I just select the first one and copy (ctrl C) and paste (ctrl V) and you duplicate it and make the changes. – I usually partially complete it with the common info, and they paste it multiple times, until I open each and add the chapter info.
