Embedded citations compatibility

Does anyone know about the embedded citations compatibility specifically across different operating systems (and their relevant microsoft word versions). For example if I use a word document (Word 2003 under XP) and then open it in a modern mac (osx and word for mac 2004 or 2008) will it still work. Of course I would need the library (I’m going to be using EndNote Web so this shouldn’t be a problem as long as they work.)

It is always safest, when transferring between platforms and word processors, to share the documents in the unformatted (curly bracketed) state, if you have the libraries accessible.   I assume this is true with Endnote Web too.  This prevents a whole host of possible corruptions, or the random time when the two are not completely compatible. For example, I think EndnoteX had a compatibility issue between Mac and Windows Word documents.
