Endnote add-in causes a conflict with Adobe PhotoShop

Hi. I’m using Word 2007, Endnote X1, 64-bit Windows 7 (home premium) and the 64-bit version of Adobe PhotoShop CS5.

If I have Word and PhotoShop open at the same time, I cannot select any menu items in PhotoShop. I posted the problem on the Adobe forums and someone suggested that the Endnote add-in caused this problem. I tried disabling it, restarted Word and the problem went away. Re-enabled the CWYW add-in and sure enough, the problem came right back.

I use both Endnote and PhotoShop all the time, so it would be nice to get rid of this problem. But before I upgrade both Word and Endnote, is there anyone out there who already uses Word 2010 and Endnote X4 as well as PhotoShop CS5. If so, could you see whether you can reproduce this problem for me?

Many thanks, Jim

I run EndNote X4 with Office 2010 on Windows 7 Professional (64-bit). I opened both Word 2010 and Photoshop CS5 (64-bit) and did not encounter any problem using Photoshop’s menu.

Per Thomson Reuters, only EndNote X4 is compatible with Windows 7.  Since X4 is compatible with Word 2007 you could try upgrading EndNote first to see if that addresses the issue before upgrading to Word 2010.

To add to CrazyGecko’s post, you can always download the demo version of X4 to confirm compatibility before committing to the upgrade. Use the following link  - http://www.endnote.com/endemo.asp.

Thanks for the information. As X4 is only compatible with Office 2010, I would still be stuck with a double upgrade, but at least I can download and test both. And happily I’m a university lecturer, so at least I can buy both at the educational price.

Thanks for your help. Jim

I downloaded the trial of Office 2010 and Endnote X4 last night and there is no conflict with PhotoShop. So, problem solved.

Also, note that the ‘Cite While You Write’ feature of EndNote X4 for Windows is compatible with: Microsoft Word® 2003, 2007 & 2010. So, you do not necessarily need to update to Word 2010 to work with EndNote X4. Although, this may be necessary to avoid whatever problems Adobe Photoshop is having.
