Using the EndNote X5.0.1 Edit -> Change Text menu opens a Change Text dialog. This dialog includes a dropdown for “In:” to allow the user to select a field. The “Packaging Method” field is not included in this dropdown. The “Title Prefix” field is also missing. It seems that this dropdown should be a complete list of all fields managed in EndNote.
Those sound like custom fields? Since that dropdown is “generic” since it applies to all records, and not just records of a single ref type, those would be listed as the generic name, probably “custom 1” and “custom 2”.
I was surprised to find Custom 1, 3, 4, and 5 set for Reference Type = Book Section. Custom 8 I had set myself, however I did not make any customizations to 1, 3, 4, or 5. I had expected the Custom 1-8 to be user-definable without any preset values. Does EndNote have preset values for Customer 1-8 for given Reference Types?
I am surprised too. I never noticed that before…
