my end note intext citations have turned into crazy computer language

have been using end note for a while with no problems

opened my dissertation today and all my citations, inlcuding my reference list have turned into crazy computer language like the example below. please help

 i just tried to cut and paste the computer language but the correct citation came up, will type in a copy of what i am seeing on the word document

{ ADDIN  ENCITE <endnote> <cite><author><patton>  etc. you get the message

Try Alt F9 to hide the field codes.

This is the same problem I seem to be having but  alt F9 didn’t work…
