New blank Word docs show: Works Cited: There are no sources in the current document

Update: I went back to a previous version of Word’s normal template (from a backup that was made before I installed EndNote). That seems to have fixed the problem. No idea if EndNote will actually work now, but that’s a problem for another day.

I recently installed EndNote 21 for Mac. I don’t use it very often and am not very familiar with it.

Now, in Word, whenever I create a new (blank) document, I get a bibliography control box that says: “Works Cited: There are no sources in the current document,” which I have to delete manually every time in order to work on the document.

Instant Formatting is off; enable Instant Formatting on new Word document is off.

I tried unchecking the EndNote add-in CWYW Word 16.bundle, but this has not solved it.

It’s not a huge problem, but it’s really annoying because it happens every time I launch Word.
