# New reference

After I enter a new reference, do I have to sync before I can insert that reference into a document. I am using X9. I am not an experienced user and probably have made some mistakes. The first was upgrading to X9 then X20. I found the latter so frustrating I deleted it and reloaded X9 which seems to work a little better with my ‘ability’ level. I am an academic used to writing in Chicago Manual without Endnote; however, I need to use it because its necessary for the style of the journal for which I am writing. One final thing, I also deleted a saved my endnote file from 2015. I know I’ve made a mess of things but I’m bumbling along here.

Any help would be much appreciated.
