Possible to insert citation in a table footnote?

Hi,

My group works with Word 2010 documents that have a lot of tables with footnotes. Colleagues want to insert citations in those table footnotes but it doesn’t seem to work. Is this possible? We have EndNote x7 and 8.

footnote citations are defined in the output style (footnote templates).  Which output style/publisher/journal are they targeting?

The output style is one I customized for our department. I’m wondering if the problem is that our footnotes are placed in the last row (cell) in a table. ? Thanks
