Problem with updating X6 within the program

I have been trying to update EN X6 (build 6348) using the software updater. The update file downloads to the temp folder, then when I attempt to install it, Corel Paintshop Pro X5 opens and the EN update does not install.

This happens each time I try to update. I will of course download the update from the Endnote website, but am curious as to whether this is a known issue, and why it happens.


It sounds like you have a filetype association issue on your computer.  Try downloading the standalone EndNote X6.0.1 update patch from our website here:

Once the file has been downloaded, right-click the “EN1601Update.msp” file and choose “Properties”.  Check the “Opens with:” association and ensure its set to “Windows Installer”.  If the Opens with association is set to anything else, click “Change” to choose Windows Installer.

If you’re unable to install the standalone EndNote X6.0.1 update patch, you may want to remove your existing unpatched installation and reinstall from a version of the EndNote X6 installer that already has the EndNote X6.0.1 update patch applied to it:
