  1. There should be an “X” beside the field to allow it to be cleared (like Microsoft provides)

  2. There should be memory in the field so it has a drop down arrow which reveals all the previous seaches conducted in the session

OOps, when I wrote a memory, I meant memory that retrieves existing entries, as suggested by a Ref Man user
