I am using Endnote X8 and Microsoft Word 2010.

I have 12 references in my document. I saved and closed the document and Endnote. I re-opened the document and Endnote, hoping to pick up referencing where I left off. When I inserted a reference (i.e. reference number 13), Endnote automatically formats it as number 1, and starts a new set of references at the bottom of my page, as if it is starting a new bibliography. I now have two ‘1’ references, when I want the second ‘1’ to just be ‘13’ - where I left off. How can I fix this without having to re-number all the references from now on?
