It is my understanding that Thomson Reuters maintains the official RIS specification (see e.g. http://www.refman.com/support/risformat_intro.asp ) that is widely supported by many reference managers, including EndNote.
I was wondering if the RIS specification is still being actively developed. Is it, and if so, are there plans to include support for groups? Most modern reference managers have some concept of (hierarchical) groups/collections/folders, and it would be great if RIS could be used to export and import references without the loss of their group assignments.
This issue came up recently on the Zotero forums ( https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/31910/?Focus=166145#Comment_166145 ), but affects many products that support RIS. I’m sure the Zotero community would be happy to help out with advancing the RIS standard, any way they can.
