This is just for info.

MS Word 2003 and Endnote X/X2 refused to cooperate. No cite while you write. Word gave the error message ‘The function you are attempting to run contains macros…’ There was also a link to a Microsoft web site that gave some info about macro security, etc.

Changing macro settings did nothing, nor clearing the log-on profile.

The problem was that VBA had not been fully installed - just a by-product of how the machines had been imaged. So the solution was to run MS Access once - it is bright enough to recognise and install VBA if needed. After that Word and Endnote worked fine.

Most stand-alone users are unlikely to have this problem, but I mention it in case it crops up with an institutional user.
