As part of an ongoing effort for greater clarity and transparency regarding the Journal Impact Factor, members of Thomson Reuters Journal Citation Reports team have prepared a Case Study in the April 2011 issue of Learned Publishing discussing the Journal Impact Factor numerator. The item describes in detail the methods for abbreviated journal title creation, aggregation of variants, and resolution in cases of cited work ambiguity.
