EN 8 issues

TBH, for me, there were no new features that were at all relevant to me in EN 8, but nonetheless I upgraded. Here are some initial observations/issues:

  • Sync is intrusive. Seriously intrusive. It generates a window that requires one to dismiss it each time it automaticallhy syncs with the Web. That is ridiculous and a real pain. Please fix that.

  • Using CWYW, every time I insert a reference Word 2016 (latest version via Office365) shifts the page by one, so I always have to scroll down a page to get where I was. Again, please fix this.

Will continue to use EN8 for now, if for no other reason than to help find bugs since I’m an altruistic sort. But this is not a good start.

I installed the X8 demo yesterday. I ask it to update a group of references, and it finds additional data. When I tell it to add unfilled fields it crashes and reboots.

I get the message: EndNote X8 (Bld 10063) has stopped working.

We have not seen the issues you have reported for EndNote X8. If these continue to be an issue, I would suggest contacting Technical Support: http://endnote.com/support

EndNote 8 Mac is consistently hanging when opening refereferences or attempting to create new references.

Is it possible to turn off sync?

How do library sharing and collaboration functions work? Does they allow others to alter your library? Are we talking about a library on the cloud that allows multiple user access with full multi-user capabilities (i.e. record locking, etc.)?

I really would not want anyone changing my libraries in any way. If there would be additions, I woud want to  review and add/categorize them myself.

There is a paucity of information and the above are concerns why I will not even download the free trial!  You were obviously brave to buy!

A sign of the times we live in: automation “Trumps” common sense

Does they allow others to alter your library?  answer: Yes  – the other sharing option, is to share a group from endnote online which does not share the attachments and does not allow them to change the contents. (uses Endnote online and share options are under “Manage my groups” (groups you have shared)  or “other groups” (groups shared by others with you).

Are we talking about a library on the cloud that allows multiple user access with full multi-user capabilities (i.e. record locking, etc.)? Answer:  Don’t think so. I believe we should have those options.  sharing with editing vs read-only options.  That is why I continue to share my library thru our institution’s network folders with read only access, occassionally sharing a group with others outside the institute.
