Endnote MAC, problems with PDF Viewer

Dear Margrethe,

Sorry, a few users have reported this behavior after upgrading to OS 10.13.4. We have reported it to our development team. Currently, there is no work around.

Just letting you know that I am another user with exactly this problem. Very annoying. Keep checking for an upgrade that will fix the bug. Would appreciate. Using Endnote for Mac X8.2 (Bld 13302).

Hi All,

Same problem exprienced here with Endnote X7.8 (Bld 13453).

Cheers

Dario

Same problem. Also automatically jumps from the second to the third page and so on. Would be really pleased if this could be fixed as soon as possible. This bug makes working with pdfs in endnote absolutely annoying.

Hello,

I am another Mac user (OS High Sierra 10.13.4) having the same PDF viewer issue where I cannot view the first or last page of any PDF within my library.  Would love to see a work-around.

Thanks

Hi

unfortunately adding myself to the growing crowd with the same reported problem.

I use MacOS High Sierra (10.13.4), and experiencing identical PDF viewer issues within EndNote (X8.2 bld 13302): not able to access some of the pages within a pdf (happens with all the pdfs saved within any of my libraries), the viewer keeps “jumping” out of those pages and settling into others, following no obvious pattern. Really annoying.

A prompt solution from the EndNote developers will be greatly appreciated! (at least a rapid work-around if the bug can’t be actually fixed that soon)

Thanks

Same problem. Is stopping me from working on my thesis. A solution quickly, please.

Hi,

I have to report the same issue—has been ongoing since day 1, making it really difficult to read PDFs in EndNote. This means I have to have all of my PDFs saved elsewhere as well, to view them on Preview (defeating the popose of uploading PDFs into EndNote).

Please let us know when this issue has been resolved.

Kind Regards,

Stefania Franja

So this was reported nearly two months ago in this thread but was going on for some time before that. What has been done to address this? It’s a significant bug and for the $ EN8 cost, it would not be unreasonable for there to be a fix by now or at least some sort of progress report. This is typical for this product; bugs and updates take forever to happen, if they do at all. Can you please update us on the status? Thanks.

The problem I foresee is that they are going to tell us to upgrade to X9 when it comes out and that will be the end of it.  They have known about these bugs for months with no support whatsoever other than we know.

We know and we are fixing it and you can have the fix all for the low low price of $100 to upgrade.  Oh, by the way, we are gonna throw in some new improved bugs to X9 that you all can complain about until XX comes out (see what I did there X (X) meaning 10).

Those of us Mac users honestly deserve a free upgrade to X9 because of the disaster X8 has been since purchasing it.

“Those of us Mac users honestly deserve a free upgrade to X9 because of the disaster X8 has been since purchasing it.”

Completely agree. I’m not hearing any new functionality with X9 that is necessary for me whatsoever, and the current state of X8 is pretty shabby for a major app, especially one that costs a boatload of money.

The updgrade to Mac x9 did NOT fix this problem. The PDF viewer still jumps to page 2. This is so frustrating. Please fix this Endnote!!

I have this same problem operating in MAC OS 10.13. It is ridiculous. Endnote casting blame on Apple seems feeble to me. If there were an easy way to transfer my endnote references along with attached pdfs to another reference manager I would do it. Maybe someone can guide me on how I might easily do this. The PDF viewer problem is a major impediment to my research.

I have same problem. Blaming the problem on Apple seems feeble to me. This problem is compromising my research and very frustrating. I would change reference managers today if there were a convenient manner to transfer the citations and attached pdfs to another reference manager. Anybody have any insight on how to do this?

Here using OSX 10.13

Hi I am having the same problem with endnote on mac. What works for me is while viewing the pdf on the right and the citations on the right if you click the last page of the pdf, in the area where you see all the pdf pages, then click the first page it will stay on the first page. Hope this also works for you.

If that doesn’t work try working up through the pages from the bottom.

I’m done. I have better things to do than try to deal with many painful longstanding bugs in overpriced and undersupported software. Been an EndNote user and former beta tester for years but it’s changed hands many times and now is in the hands of folks who just don’t seem to care or know how to code. X9 has the same bugs (slowdowns, poor scrolling, PDF issues galore) that x8 has. And x9 remains a 32-bit app. Updates are infrequent and generally late with regard to Word and OS updates that render EN unusable. I tried Bookends from Sonnysoftware.com and it seems amazing. None of the PDF issues, a very responsive developer and it seems to be able to do even more than EN. So buh-bye. EndNote has lost me as a loyal customer and I’m just sorry I didn’t learn about Bookends 2-3 years ago.

I just purchased endnote x9. I am a new user and I encountered this issue immediately after attempting to use the software. What are my options?

Personally, I would investigate a refund asap. I did a lot of research looking at alternatives and for my uses, Bookends works exceptionally well so far. The fact that X9 didn’t fix a single bug from X8 and to add insult to injury, isn’t even 32-bit, made my decision to ditch Endnote after nearly two decades of use, an easy one even though it’s a big shame. Given how long it took them to update Endnote for Word 2016 compatibiity (nearly a year after the betas of Word launched publicly), I’m skeptical they’ll have a 64-bit compiled version ready for when Apple pulls the plug on allowing any 32-bt app to run.

So I’d try to get a refund for sure. Good luck.
