A file handling chicken-and-egg question

I did some EndNote training at my library several years ago, and remember being told two things:

  1. Always open EndNote first and then the library (never open an .enl by double-clicking in Windows Explorer)
  2. Always open my EndNote library first before opening my Word document

Do these rules still apply?

No and No.

The pattern is followed when attempting to troubleshoot a Word/EndNote problem but in normal cases it should not matter.
