I have a group in Endnote desktop that is comprised of several hundred references, imported from Web of Science. I'm trying to make an appendix of references that I'm reviewing in an Excel spreadsheet.
My end goal is to have have an Excel spreadsheet with the 1st column being a list of all the references, but as in-text citation (e.g. Smith et al 2014) rather than the entire reference (e.g. Smith, Smith, Smith, Smith...2014...)
I can do this manually but it will take a while, so I was wondering if there is a way to create a list of in-text citations maybe in Word, which I could then copy over to Excel. The furthest I have got is exporting the reference list to text and opening this in Excel. The issue here is that I can get the first name in a column, but due to the referencing style, authors with just two or three authors would need to be changed (to John, John and John 2014), which also would take quite a bit of time to go through and edit them.
Can anyone help me out? Thank you!

You can create a style that would output just the last name of the first author a tab space then the year so the resulting file could be imported into Excel.
I have attached a zip with a style you can try out.
The style is setup if there is more than one author then it does author, et al.
You can adjust that setting in the style if needed.
You can use the following steps to add the style to EndNote:
Save the attachment from this post to your desktop.
Unzip the file.
Double-click on the file to open it in the EndNote software.
Click the File menu in EndNote and select Save As.
Close the style window.
You can now delete the other files the style has been added to EndNote.
You can then select the references you want to export in EndNote.
Go to File then Export.
Name the file.
At the bottom of the window find Select Another Style and locate the new style.
You should then be able to go into Excel and open the file. Excel will put the authors in a column and the years in another.
Please let me know if you have any trouble with the above steps or have a follow up question
