How do I cite the legal rule "Insanity defense" in EndNote?

Hi all,

I would really appreciate if you could help me with citing the 18 U.S.C. § 17 “Insanity defense”. Is it a statute or a legal rule or legislation? How am I supposed to fill in all fields, e.g. author, issuing organization, rule number etc?

Your help would be very much appreciated!

Best regards,

18 U.S.C. § 17

TITLE 18 - CRIMES AND CRIMINAL PROCEDURE

PART I - CRIMES

CHAPTER 1 - GENERAL PROVISIONS

§ 17. Insanity defense

(a) Affirmative Defense. — It is an affirmative defense to a prosecution under any Federal statute that, at the time of the commission of the acts constituting the offense, the defendant, as a result of a severe mental disease or defect, was unable to appreciate the nature and quality or the wrongfulness of his acts. Mental disease or defect does not otherwise constitute a defense.

(b) Burden of Proof. — The defendant has the burden of proving the defense of insanity by clear and convincing evidence.

I am not sure how many of us would know, and I suppose the question first needs to be addressed in the law community, before we can help you get it into an Endnote friendly entry and output style?

Thank you Leanne! Do you have any tips on where I can find a similar forum for people in the American law community? Best, Madeleine
