Unlock Endnote X8 on Mac after X8 has already been installed

Hi,

I have been using Endnote X7 on Mac for years and bought the new Endote X8 but when opening Endnote X8, the library shows as ‘locked’ and I cannot save new sources or do anything on Endnote8. I have looked online for advice and the issue seems to be linked to the license agreement. I have followed the install steps offered online but the installer does not show a multi-user and site license unlocker (maybe because it’s already installed?) so I cannot put my product key and redistribute to other installers.  

Could you please advise what I can do?

If you have both programs install the issue could be that X7 has the library open which would prevent you from opening it with X8.

I would check the Apple Menu and Force Quit to ensure you do not have EndNote X7 and EndNote X8 running at the same time.

If EndNote X7 is not running then you may need to repair the library using the following steps from our website:
