I found the solution. You need to manually click on “Edit & Manage citation(s)” and rearrange the order of oreferences included in the number range (32-37 in my case). Still, it is remains odd that Endnote does not respect the order it automatically applied when you cite a reference from the range later on. Seems like a bug.
