WorldCat and the WorldCat Filter

When importing from WorldCat, the amount of information is much less that say ten years ago. Is there a better import filter that captures more of the data or is the problem on the WorldCat end?

Are you using an outdated import filter? The Endnote website shows the most recent OCLC Worldcat import filter is dated 2013-09-05: http://endnote.com/downloads/filters?field_filter_data_provider_value_op=starts&field_filter_data_provider_value=oclc&=Apply

If you’re using a current import filter then the issue may be a mismatch between the exported field data and the Endnote import filter’s tags. If this is the case it’s possible to modify the filter if provided a sample of the exported records and data fields in order to compare them against the Endnote import filter.

  1. Select and search the FirstSearch database as you normally would.
  2. Mark the references you want to export.
  3. Click on the Export icon.
  4. Export:  Marked records from this search.
  5. Export to:  EndNote.
  6. Click the Export button.
  7. Do you want to open or save the file?  Select OPEN.
  8. Choose an import filter:  If you don’t see the name of your database, choose Other Filters from the menu.  Scroll down the alphabetical list of filters and find the one for the database you used–make sure it has OCLC after it.  For example:  WorldCat (OCLC), or PsycINFO (OCLC).  Click Choose.

When finished, check your references to make sure they were imported correctly.
