Receiving the following error message in Microsoft Word 2013

'Microsoft Word

Word cannot save this file because it is alreafy open eleswhere.

(C:\Users…\Reference Manager Cwyw.dotm)

Any ideas?

The first thing to do is to close Word (and Microsoft Outlook, if you use it).

Next click on the Start button, and type regedit into the search window. This will allow you to open the Registry Editor.

Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\ISI ResearchSoft\Reference Manager 12.0.

Right-click on the Add-in folder and click on delete.

Next right click on the Cite While You Write folder and click on delete.

After that you can close the Registry Editor.

Click on Start > Computer. Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\ResearchSoft\CWYW\Reference Manager. Right click on the 12 folder and click on rename. You can call the folder Old 12. (If you are using Windows 64-bit go to C:\Program Files (X86)\Common Files\ResearchSoft\CWYW\Reference Manager.)

Next go to C:\Users[YourUserName]\AppData\Roaming\ISI ResearchSoft\RefMan12 and delete the file “Reference Manager Cwyw.dotm.”

Note that the AppData folder is a hidden folder and might not be showing. If you do not see AppData under your user folder you can click on the Start button and in the search box type %USERPROFILE%

Once you have deleted the .dotm file, click on Start > Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features. This will bring up a list of installed programs. Once the list comes up click on Reference Manager 12 and then click on the “repair” option above the window.

When the repair process is finished you will be taken back to the main window. You can then close out of everything and start Word to see if the problem has been resolved.
