Bibliography with long list of co-authors

Dear phorum,

I am limited with regard to space of bibliography. So, for the papers with many co-authors I would like to have a reference that inlcude only first and the last author. Something like that

Ossandón, T., . . . Lachaux, J.-P. Transient suppression of broadband gamma power in the default-mode network is correlated with task complexity and subject performance. J. Neurosci. 31, 14521-14530 (2011).

However, at least in Endnote5 the only possible option is to have first 6 names and the last name:

Ossandón, T., Jerbi, K., Vidal, J.R., Bayle, D.J., Henaff, M.-A., Jung, J., . . . Lachaux, J.-P. Transient suppression of broadband gamma power in the default-mode network is correlated with task complexity and subject performance. J. Neurosci. 31, 14521-14530 (2011).

Is there any solution  / workaround to my problem? Is there any improvement in the later Endnote versions? I do not want to upgrade just to find out that there is still no solution.

Thanks

These settings are still what is available, as far as I can tell, in Endnote X8.  I believe this was a setting specifically designed to conform with APA requirements.

If listing the first and last author (regardless of the number of co-authors) is permitted by the style guidelines for your discipline, there is a workaround to accomplish what you want to do.

The trick is to: 1) use Endnote’s “Custom Field” to create a second Author field (e.g. “NewAuthor”) which will substitute for the current Author field used in the output style’s bibliography template; 2) use Endnote’s Change/Move/Copy Fields function to copy the contents from the current Author field into the second/substitute NewAuthor Field; 3) manually edit the contents of the NewAuthor field of the targeted records to contain just the first author + … + Last author; then 4) edit the bibliography output style template to replace the Author field with the NewAuthor field.
