Delete Annotation fails to delete highlights on attached PDF files

When highlighting text in a PDF file attached to a record (and having saved the changes) in EndNote X9, I sometimes want to later remove the highlight. However, I cannot remove it.

I tried right clicking on the highlighted section and choosing “ Delete Annotation ”, but it did not remove the highlight as it is supposed to. Does anyone know if this is a bug or is there a work around?
