Endnote update all references

Dear all,

Is there a way to update all references in one click? I’ve just reopened a damaged database from at least two years ago, and see a lot of ‘gaps’ in the properties. It is possible to go over every single reference and click ‘update’, but this database is quite large…

It may depend upon how the references were set up and the version of EndNote used. Refer to this thread and Jason’s information on updating references.

Selecting mutiple references and clicking “find reference updates” would give me exactly what I want!

Since I’m using Endnote X5, that should be possible. However; the “find reference updates” is greyed out when I select more than one reference…

Is that a known bug, a bit of missing functionality, or am I selecting it from the wrong window (or something like that)?

If you’re running Windows you might be in luck as there’s a patch for X5, upgrading the program to X5.0.1.  Among the improvements mentioned is: “Automatically update multiple references - including your whole library”.

Information and downloading the patch is avaiable at the Thomson Reuters EndNote site:

http://www.endnote.com/support/ENX501_WinMac_updater.asp  (Also note it never hurts to backup key files prior to installing anything.)

Also note additional support information is availabe at the same site by clicking “Support & Services” tab at the top of the page.
