multiple bibliographic references on one line

It would be extremely helpful to be able to create a compact style where each bibliographic entry isn’t forced onto a new line. This is a requirement for many grant applications, where references are included in the page limit, and a style such as the one below is commonplace.

Example:

  1. Coyne, JA and HA Orr, 2004, Speciation. 2. Ålund, M, S Immler, AM Rice, et al. 2013, Biol. Lett. 9:20130169. 3. Grant, PR and BR Grant, 1992, Science 256:193-197.
