My library has lost it’s data file. I have an earlier version of my library with less references. Can I import the .enl file without its data file into my older library, and remove duplicates? Or will this somehow corrupt my older library? Or, is there some other way of at least importing the references from the newer, corrupt library into the older one? thanks
Hello,
The .data folder is where the actual references reside in a format only EndNote can read. The .enl exist to open the information located in the .data folder. In fact, the .enl file can be replaced with a blank notepad file as long as you have the .data folder.
To answer your question directly, NO, you will not be able to import the .enl file without the .data folder. Are you able to restore your library from a backup?
Sincerely,
Miguel
