Playing catch-up

I am a brand new EndNote user, but an “old” graduate student with many references, most in .pdf format, already downloaded onto my computer. I need to know: (1) how to get EndNote to automatically import the information from those articles into a library, and (2) how to attach the article to the library entry. Thanks.

Endnote cannot yet extract meta info frim a PDF.  What field are you in.  In the sciences, it is easy to just do some searches, and import them, and then add additional references as you go.  Then you can download the PDF using the find full text option, as long as you have access to the online subscriptions.  you can drag and drop the existing PDF onto the appropriate record, but if you have a lot of them, it can be pretty tedious.

PDF extraction is something we are currently working on for EndNote. This capability will be specifically designed to extract embedded metadata from full-text articles and proceedings. Based on our work thus far, this technology is imperfect at best and will very likely not be able to recognize semi-structured bibliographic information in any PDF document.
