there are several other Chicago styles but the one you chose, (and most of them) are footnote styles and you need to add the footnote first in word and put the citation in the footnote. (hence “notes”) but it also generates a full bibliography at the end. It is very difficult to switch/convert a in text citation document to a footnote document, as the insertions are completely different. There are complicated macros that people have generated that can do it, and Endnote’s Clarivate team may have access to some tools to help (per an old thread here:. Converting in-text citations to footnotes/endnotes - #22 by buzzlotus ) Otherwise, I just bite the bullet and reinsert them all.
Does the publisher require a footnote style? or is it asking for intext citations – who are you targeting to submit the manuscript to? There is Chicago Author-Date - but it doesn’t look like there is a Chicago numbered style.
