EN X6 Mac: How to open attached PDFs in Apple’s Preview app

Choosing “Open PDF” or double-clicking a reference with a PDF opens that PDF file in an EndNote reference window with basic but for my purposes inadequate editing capabilities. I need to use Apple’s Preview app which is much more powerful (and much more elegant and beautiful) than what EndNote has to offer.

How can I change the preferences such that EN X6 opens PDFs in Apple’s Preview app upon choosing “Open PDF” or double-clicking a reference with a PDF?

I know I can use the “Control-Click, File Attachments, Open File” command cascade but this is much to cumbersome for routine use.

You can use the shortcut key combination - Option+Command+P - to open file attachments in the defualt viewing application. For most Macintosh users, by default PDFs should open in the “Preview” application.

I just testing this on my Macintosh running OSX 10.7.5 and EndNote X6 and it worked perfectly.
