EndNote Web Capture is Essential -- Where is it?

The ability to capture a reference by pulling the information directly from a website is an essential tool. It used to be available in a toolbar bookmarklet but that was discontinued. It should be a key feature of EndNote Click. I need to do this regularly because I need to get newspaper articles or data from the World Bank, UN, Freedom House, or other agencies and groups. I also have a student who relies on a screen reader and doing references manually is far more difficult. I have a workaround that requires using the capture tool in Zotero and then importing the .ris file into EndNote. The need to use another reference manager to import is an embarrassment. I have recommended EndNote to others for years and losing this ability might change my mind.

Given the problem with Endnote, why haven’t you moved to Zotero and stopped using Endnote?
I am asking because having been on Endnote since Version eight (I have a printed manual!) I am not going to carry on paying Clarivate for updates that seem to go backwards as much as forwards. So I have stopped at V21

The principle reason is that I do not find Zotero to be able to properly handle the changes in styles that I need. It is particularly problematic with footnotes using short-titles. This certainly could be a user issue since I am less familiar with it. My students want free and they cannot seem to get Zotero to work properly. That is frustrating.

Thanks. That is interesting feedback. The grass is not always greener even if it is free

That’s interesting. What particular issues do you have with footnotes and short-titles? The CSL (Citation Style Language) is much more flexible than what EN provides for style “programming”, so I’m very curious about where EN beats CSL there

Admittedly, I do not spend a lot of time playing around with it so it could be operator error. My students want free so Zotero is popular. Between us, we know it should work but we have been unable to do it as CMS 17 (or now 18) requires. It always repeats the full title in subsequent footnotes.

This is getting off-topic now.
If you fill in the field ‘Short Title’ in Zotero, using the style ‘Chicago Manual of Style […] (notes and bibliotgraphy’ I get short titles only in subsequent footnotes. The recently updated implementation of CMoS styles is the closest you will get to the requirements of the manual with any reference management software. There are other good reasons to go with EndNote but the accuracy of style implementation isn’t one, IMHO.
That said, I won’t go into more details in this thread, in order to keep it on topic, but you may PM me.
