Formatting and citations in "Notes"?

I need to include notes in the references that include formatting (e.g. italics) and citations. Is this possible using EndNote?

I’m writing a manuscript using a numbered style. I’m using EndNote X1 and Microsoft Word 2007. I know about the “Insert Note” dialog, but this doesn’t seem to allow formatting or citations in the notes.

I hope you don’t mind if I bump this post…

In fact  I was also looking for the possibility to enter formatted text in endnote notes.  That would be particulary usefulwhen referring to variables (italic text) or chemical formulas (sub and superscripts). If it can’t be implemented in the form of an editor, maybe with something like xml tags?
