Wondering if anyone can help? I am using MLA so cite to footnote. When I do so I get a full stop after the end of the citation, so that it is incorrectly formatted when I add a page number. Any thoughts would be gratefully accepted

Have you tried playing with the link adjacent and forced separation “insert field” characters?
It should look like this, where the * is a link ajacent and the | are forced separation characters.
