In text citations suddenly changed- help!!

Out of the blue today, after working in Word 2007 and Endnote X1, all of my citations turned to looking like this in all my documents:

<EndNote><Cite><Author>Williams</Author><Year>2002</Year><RecNum>1297</RecNum…

I cannot seem to get them back to normal (author, year).  Updating does not work.  Why did this happen?  How can I fix it?  Please help!

Amazing- I’ve been using Endnote for 8 years and I know I would have never figured that out on my own- cannot thank you enough for your quick reply- worked perfectly and a great piece of knowledge about Endnote to have.  Thanks again!!
