I’m trying to use the Internet search (PubMed) and keep getting no results. I’m getting no documents found. The DB is open in exclusive mode, the same terms (copy and paste) from browser that are returning hits at pubmed.com give the following error.
“No Documents found for the specified search”
I’ve set the search term to “All Fields” and a common search term (that returns thousands of hits at pubmed.com).
Any ideas on how to get the search to work? Internet search box is checked.
Checking the ISS Message log reports the following:
Waiting for the server to respond to a request…
Successfully received a response from the server…
But no results are returned. I did a simple search for an author I know and get nothing, yet an author search at pubmed.com returns their papers. My settings are: PubMed, and Internet Search is checked. Any ideas?
Thanks.
The PubMed Internet Search feature in versions 9.0 and 9.5 no longer works. Due to the magnitude of the engineering modifications necessary, we will not be able to update version 9.0 or 9.5 to restore PubMed connectivity. If this feature is important to you we recommend that you upgrade to version 12.
If you do not wish to upgrade you can still execute your search on the PubMed website and save your references into a text file that can be imported into Reference Manager. To do this:
-
Go to the PubMed website in your web browser.
-
Execute your searches to obtain search results (Select “Clipboard” from the “Send to” drop down menu to save records from multiple searches as you work).
-
On the search results page, select “MEDLINE” in the dropdown menu next to the “Display” button.
-
Choose “File” from the “Send to” drop down menu, and then click “Send to”.
-
Click on the “Save” button and save the file somewhere easily accessible such as your desktop (we recommend saving with the file extension *.txt).
-
In Reference Manager, open the database where you would like these references saved.
-
Under the References menu select “Import Text File”.
-
In the Filters field, select the Browse button […] and select the Import filter called “PubMed.cap”.
-
In the Text File field, select the Browse button […], and then select your downloaded *.txt file.
-
Click the Import button and your references will be imported.

That’s interesting, since we have the original box and manuals, and it lists right on the cover that it can be used to do Internet searches. Was something changed on the server that caused v9.x to quit working?

Thank you for the suggested work around, I’ll give that a try.
