MULTIPLE SUGGESTIONS

I regard EndNote X6 as one of my 3 most useful apps on the Mac. But it could be made more wonderful by:

  1. When an Endnote file (.enl) is opened, the display should not have to be reconfigured with every opening.  There should be a preference or at the least a maintenance of the formating style of how you wish to view your opened library.

  2. Even before the .enl file is opened, the actual Open File command to all the EndNote libraries in the Finder should not have to be reconfigured insofar as the column size.

  3. When moving from local view to online view there should be a setting that routinely selects PubMed or whatever online services you wish to have checked.  How many times have you done a search with no results only to realize that no online search program was selected.

  4. When free full text files are found they should NOT be appended to the file attachments section of Endnote with a hypen after the senior author’s name  e.g., Catalona-12 since on a Mac that file would

not be found in a FINDER search using Catalona without the hyphen.  Suggest Senior author name and then a space and whatever follows.

  1. When in online mode and a search is completed and you have selected “copy to local file”, and then go back to the local view, the user should not be redirected to the start of the library but to the citation that was just brought over.

  2. Same as above when working in Local View and adding a New Group. In fact, when working in the local view it should be possible to use a hot key to add a New Group without losing your place within the citations displayed.

That’s all folks.

Of these most excellent suggestions, this one is the one that I wold vote for OVER AND OVER!

  1. Change the DRAB icons to colorful ones and make a preference setting for large icon size vs other sizes.

  2. When finding Free full text, after a new search for free full text is done, reset the results of this operation to zero. Otherwise, you have no clue whether your current search is successful unless you scroll to the actual citation and see if you have a file attached.

it is likely that before the end of the day, I will think of two more items.
