"New Reference" button greyed out/not working

 Hi,

I am new to EndNote and doing a Lynda course in how to use it.

I am up to the part regarding how to add a new reference manually. On my copy of EndNote, the “new reference” button is greyed out/not functioning and I can’t figure out why. In fact, most of the 

There is probably an easy/obvious solution to this, but it has me baffled.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! I’ve included a screenshot.

I found that by simply creating a new folder in a different location, that button (and many others) became functional again? I’m sure some more tech savvy people than I will know why, but it’s a mystery to me.

Possibly your original folder choice was in a write protected location?  Like the Program folder?
