Optoins when not using year in in-text citation

I am on X1 and the journal I am submitting to asks that we cite references in the text with author only (ex: Smith and Jones; Johnson), using the year only when the author has multiple papers cited in the same sentence (ex: Smith and Jones, 2001; Smith and Jones 2002). I cannot figure out how to make this happen. I believe it will be done in the style editor under Citations-Templates, but what the syntax will be is unknown. Is there a way to do this?

Thanks!

Aaron

Okay - mistake number one. I read the instructions wrong. It uses year in the in-text references. So, my question is no longer relevant. However, I am curious how I can learn more about the syntax for templates. Any suggestions?
