I’m glad that EndNote has an “Author (Year)” citation format, but it should also include a possessive version of this as a built-in standard feature – i.e., an “Author’s (Year)” citation format. It would be much better to be able to write “Smith’s (1997) model” rather than “The model of Smith (1997).”
Thanks!
You can achieve it but you have to type in Smith’s and exclude author from the citation, rather than using the Author (Year) formatting option. Sometimes I copy the name from the formatted citation to in front to avoid spelling errors, and then edit the citation. Sometimes I want it to say “Johnson and coworkers (1977) explored …” for example and I use this trick. It is also what I used to do before they gave the alternative Author (year) option (many years ago).
