I just installed the Ref Man trial version (because my colleagues use it, but if I can’t make it work, I’ll buy Endnote instead), and I can search and create dtabases but I’m having problems with “Generate Bibliography”. I have a document with references and a reference list which was generated by someone else on another computer, using Ref Man. But when i try to add a reference, it doesn’t use the correct format (it comes unformatted) and nothing happens when I press Generate Bibliography. Also, when I create a new document, for testing, and insert one reference from the database I just created, it’snot formatted (eventhough I have chosen Instant formatting and I have chosen a specific Journal in the create bibliography settings). And also here, when I try Create Bibliography nothing happens. Any idea why it isn’t working? I’m grateful for any suggestion… Thank you! -LMR
To begin troubleshooting, let’s check to see which add-in files are loading when Word starts. To verify this, in Word 2003, click “Tools>Templates and Add-ins”. Take a look on this window and let me know what is all listed below where it says “Checked items are currently loaded”. If you’re working with Word 2007, click on the “Office” button and press “Word Options”. On the Word Options window, click on the “Add-ins” tab, set the “Manage” drop down menu to “Word Add-ins” and click “Go”. On this window, below where it says “Checked items are currently loaded”, let me know what is listed.
