Reference types

How can I globally change the reference type of a group of references in one database?

thanks

Be sure to back up your library using the File menu > Compressed Library command or clicking the File menu and Save A Copy before following theses steps. If you have a set of references in your library that are all one Reference Type and you want them to be another, you can follow these steps:

  1. Sort the references in the library by Reference Type to find the references you wish to change.
  2. Highlight the references you need to modify.
  3. Click the Reference menu > Show Selected References.
  4. Click the Edit menu > “Change Text” or “Find and Replace” with EndNote X6.
  5. Change “In:” to the Reference Type field.
  6. Under “Search for” enter the current Reference Type.
  7. Under “Change the text to” enter the new Reference Type.
  8. Click Change

Once you are done, you can click the References menu and select Show All References. You can then re-sort your library as needed. If your scenario is different than the one addressed, please let us know.
