Searching across multiple libraries

Could anyone tell me how I can search across multipple libraries? I am using Endnote X2 on a Windows Vista computer. My original Endnote library is huge (30,363 records) and starting to get unstable. I have started another library that I keep open with my original one while I am using Endnote. I want to be able to pull up records from both libraries so that I don’t have to go back and forth doing separate searches usingthe same search criteria. Can this be done and if so, how do I do it?

Complex searching across multiple libraries is not currently implemented.  You can save the search and apply to each library in turn.

Searching from word’s endnote tool “Find Citations”  pulls from all open libraries though, but that is a simple search with one parameter and cannot easily handle complex searches.  If you put two words in the Find box, it will treat them as “and”.

How is the library unstable?  What version of Endnote are you using?

Hi Leanne, Thanks for the reply. I was afraid that that would be the answer. Being able to search across multiple libraries is a powerful tool and I am surprised that Endnote hasn’t implemented it. Hopefully it will be in the next update?

I tried answering your question about instability, but when I posted it, the message disappeared! At anyrate, I regularly get a  This library appears to be damaged message and once it happens I am unable to get out of it by pressing OK on the dialogue box. The only way I am able to get out of Endnote is to stop the process through task master. No one has simultaneous access to the library, certainly no one has write priviledge. When I restart the program, the library open up without any problems. I am using Endnote X2.0.1 BLD 3514. I have had this problem since I upgraded to Endnote X2 when it came out a year  or so ago. The problem is not library specific and has ocurred with the new library that I created this morning.

Disappeared because they moved the thread from the Forum Discussion here to the more appropriate Endnote: How to section. - probably while you were writing your msg.

I would ask tech support about what is happening.  Where does your library reside and can you tell from the task master what else is running when it happens?  Especially if happens with more than one library -which suggests it isn’t because the library is large?  I think it better to find and fix the problem than splitting the libraries up. I have use X2 since the beta, and haven’t had this problem.  If it is on a network, is it possible the network drive gets transiently lost? I have had that happen once when we were having network issues.

Hi Leanne, Thanks again for your prompt reply. I will contact Tech support. FYI though, I get the problem regardless of having my library on a network drive or in My Documents on my C Drive. Let’s see what the Tech boffins come up with!
