It looks like the “Web Page” bibliography template is linking “Retrieved” with “Access Date”. This means “Retrieved” will appear only when there’s a date in the Access Date field - I suspect that’s why only “from” is displayed in your example.
To correct this you’ll need to modify the APA 6th’s bibliography template.
Go to EndNote toolbar, select Edit > Output Styles > Edit “APA 6th”. The APA 6th dialog box is now displayed on-screen.
In the left column of the dialog box locate the Bibiliography section then click “Templates”.
Locate the problematic template (Web Page) and make the following changes (the diamond represents inserting the Link Adjacent Text command). When done, exit the output style dialog box which will save the changes to a new file (APA 6th Copy). Adjust both EndNote and MS Word to use the APA 6th Copy style file.
However when I go to save/exit it creates a dialogue box with style name: “APA 6th Copy”, and when I select Save, it creates another dialogue box “APA 6th Copy Copy” and every time I click Save it adds another Copy to the end, and won’t actually let me save the changes.
Your screenshot shows the correct dialog boxes that appear when saving changes to the output style. If you’ve been clicking OK for each dialog box and getting nowhere:
Is the output style being saved to a folder/location on the hard driver that isn’t write-protected? To check the location of the Styles Folder go to the EndNote toolbar, select Edit > Preferences. Click “Folder Locations” and check the path location of the Style Folder. The path directory should be in a location which isn’t write-protected.
If the path location is correct (i.e., not write-protected), test whether you can modify and save a different output style. If you can do so it may mean there’s a problem with the APA 6th file and you should download and install another file (To download a new APA 6th output style go to the EndNote toolbar, select Help > Web Styles Finder.)
If you are unable to save the different output style this would suggest the file is being saved to an improper location (i.e., write protected).
What version of EndNote are you using and your computer OS? Are you running the updated version of EndNote - see this URL for list of software updates: http://endnote.com/downloads/available-updates
I was able to copy that file to C:\Program Files\EndNote X6\Styles, and it worked perfectly!
I couldn’t tell if that folder was write-protected, but it could well be, since it’s my PC at uni.
I’m running Windows 7, X6 (but possibly not the updated version).
In Windows 7, the Program Files folder is “write protected” in that it will not allow programs to alter the contents and this explains your “copy” error when you try to save an edited file. I suspect you upgraded from an older Endnote version where the default was set in preferences to point to the Program Folder location. the new default should be sent to a local folder, usually a subfolder of my documents or library/doucuments/endnote/styles, but you can change it to any location. So in current versions of Endnote, the program pulls the output styles (or filters or connection files) from two locations. Installation folder - usually in the Program Files/endnote folder and the user defined in preferences folders.
You need to edit your preferences to point to the new - writable location (edit preferences, folder location) to avoid having the copy error in the future. This also means when you install/upgrade, etc, endnote, you don’t lose your edited or downloaded styles, they are still safe in the alternate folder.
