Backing up RefTypeTable.xml

Is it a good idea to back up the  RefTypeTable.xml file? I made substantial modifications to Ref Types, and use this across two machines. I used to sync this file, but it seems to be syncing across the two machines (though I am not sure how).

Thanks

Hello James,

You can back up the RefTypeTable.XML by exporting a version of the file:

  • In Windows, from the Edit menu, choose Preferences.
In Mac OS X, from the EndNote menu, choose Preferences.
  • Click the Reference Types option in the list of preferences.
  • Under Reference Type Table, click Export to display a file dialog.
  • Name the file, select a folder where you will be able to find it later, and click Save. EndNote will append an .xml suffix to the file name.

You can use the following steps to import the file:

  • In Windows, from the Edit menu, choose Preferences.
In Mac OS X, from the EndNote menu, choose Preferences.
  • Click the Reference Types option in the list of preferences.
  • Under Reference Type Table, click Import to display a file dialog.
  • In the file dialog, locate, highlight, and Open the .xml file that was previously exported.
