COM exception error + Format of in-text citations transformed

Hi,

today, the “COM exception” error started to occur every time I want to insert a new in-text citation. First, inserting citations as “Author (Year)” still worked, but that option is now gone as well. Additionally, all in-text citations previously formatted as “Author (Year)” are now formatted as “(Author, Year)”.

I have tried all suggested fixes for the COM error and have uninstalled word + EndNote X9 (Mac) twice.

How do I resolve these issues?

I was able to fix the issue that the formatting of all in-text citations was changed by selecting preferences -> applications -> EndNote (in the Word add-in)
