when an entry has a space at the end, the following comma or period is omitted in the output.
Example
This is how it should be:
Watson, I.A., Taylor, K., Sapsford, D.J., Banks, D., 2009. Tracer testing to investigate hydraulic performance of a RAPS Treating Mine Water in South Wales, Proceedings Securing the Future 2009 & 8th ICARD, Skellefteå, pp. 1-10 [electronic document].
when you add a space after the title of the entry, the output looks like that:
Watson, I.A., Taylor, K., Sapsford, D.J., Banks, D., 2009. Tracer testing to investigate hydraulic performance of a RAPS Treating Mine Water in South Wales Proceedings Securing the Future 2009 & 8th ICARD, Skellefteå, pp. 1-10 [electronic document].
Do you have lots of problems with this? Where does the space come from? Manual data entry or during import from a database? (and what output style? does it always happen with other styles?)
I guess I have never seen this behaviour because I don’t have trailing spaces in my entries? Maybe Developers can introduce a check for this, either on the whole library, or the filter or connection file needs a tweak so you don’t get them in the first place.
I think it must have something to do with the double punctuation “macro” that is used during the output process. Obviously <space>comma wouldn’t be any better.
I don’t have many problems with this. In rare cases where I either entered a space accidentally or copied the title form the paper and I forgot to delete the trailing space.
It is the case with all output styles I tested - so I assume it is a general bug.
I think that the EndNote developers need to ensure that entries don’t have trailing or leading spaces - I see it often with students who are less experiences. That have leading or trailing spaces in their entries.
