EndNote 21 desktop version: Export list of references with MY TAGS

Dear team

I have a large number of references, which I tagged nicely with up to 6 colourful tags each. Now I want to export the list of references (preferably in BibTex format), including all tags (I don´t need their colours). How exactly do I adapt the BibTex style to include the tags?

Why do I need them? I am working on a large bibliometric analysis (using R Bibliometrix), where I want to show with network graphs the connection (and dis-connection) between topics relevant to my interdisciplinary research field.

Best,
Fabian

I tried now the following but it does not work:

Tools > Output styles > Edit “BibText style”
here I add a line for the tags in the same format and coding as the other lines

| tags = {Tags}

I tried “My Tags” instead, but “Tags” is most logical, since all the other lines also use exactly the field syntax as in the table that describes individual references (the right window when you open Endnote). If I add any other of those fields, like “Start Page”, “ISSN” or “DOI” instead of “Tags” it works by referring to the respective value. But using “Tags” it doesn´t find a field link in the background, and all I get in the exported text file is tags = {Tags}.

Why are Tags the only field which cannot be linked in the output style? Or, more solution-orientated, how is this field called in the background code so I can link it into my output style to export the tags of my 900 references in one go?

I also had a phone call with the Clarivate team regarding this topic:

According to the expert on the phone, exporting Tags is not possible, because My Tags is no field. In fact, it is the only reference property which is no field but implemented completely differently than all the other reference properties including “Start Page”, “Article Number”, “Access Date” and also Endnote specific ones such as “Rating”, “Label” and the 40+ other fields available.

To the development team, please make My Tags a field as soon as possible. Then My Tags can be exported together with the other fields for bibliometric analysis and My Tags could be used in the Endnote search function for looking for a combination of Tags. Only then will the My Tags be truly functional for many users.

Until then, can you please help me to transfer all tags of 900 references into a free field such as “Labels”? I would need this data for my research which I have to have ready in October 2024.

Thank you!

So you have 6 tags? can you sort by tags? If so. Then select each group with a specific tag and edit them additing specific tag name to a unused field - so it is now in a field.

Hi, I’m trying to do the same thing. Did you figure out a way to do it? how do you export your endnote library to bibtext for bibliometrix use?
