Endnote 21 has been out for a long time now, but the removed functions have still not been fixed. For example:
It is no longer possible to copy and paste a reference in the same library. Why, oh why, Endnote gods, did you remove this function? Instead, I have to open a new library, copy the reference into it, then copy it back to the old library. This wastes my time.
Why isn’t there a button to add a figure just like the “Attach file” button? Instead, I have to go to the menu and go through two different dialog boxes to add a figure. Again, this wastes my time.
Why can’t I delete a figure after it’s added? I can replace it, but not delete it. Why?
The preview pane used to always be visible. Now it is only visible in the summary window and then needs to be dragged up from the bottom every time the program starts. Why?
There are so many more problems. Do we need to stand outside the Endnote office with pitchforks to get this stuff fixed? We’ve been patient, but enough is enough.
As well as the show selected, hide selected option that disappeared! Now you have to make a group - tempory for the most part, if you want to edit a group of records.
IS clavate trying to close Endnote without actually saying “we are closing endnote”?
Rather than developing they seem to be taking things out. In fact the wiki page for Endnote says that it got most of its functionality by 2004, some 20 years ago and has only had minor things added and removed since. They seem to be running it as a cash cow with no reguard for the users?
Don’t hold your breath. People seem to have been waiting for years across multiple versions for things to be fixed or put back. This has been going on for over a decade. As a light user of Endnote, had I not got it, originally paid for by someone else, and using it to catalogue my library I would have moved off it a while ago.
It is a shame, as I don’t think it would take a lot to sort out most of the problems people have.
